In 2015, the government made a commitment to extend the “Right To Buy” to housing association members, and they have recently made a development on that front. Whilst housing association tenants were able to receive a “Preserved Right To Buy” if they were initially tenants of local authorities when ownership of their homes was exchanged to a housing accociation, this was the only avenue available for any Right to Buy for them. However, the Midlands have been running a pilot scheme of a “Voluntary Right To Buy” since 2018, and a recent announcement states that morepilot schemes are planned in other areas.
